Rayner Director and Curator of "Renoir Drawings," as he discusses Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s The Great Bathers, which the artist himself called his œuvre maîtresse, or masterwork. This exhibition reunites the monumental painting with its preparatory drawings for the first time since they left Renoir’s studio. Seen together, these works reveal how the bathers evolved over time, as Renoir refined form, figure, and expression through careful study and revision.
