September 26, 1976: On this day 48 years ago, the Miami Dolphins defeated the New York Jets 16-0 in their home opener in front of 49,754 fans at the Orange Bowl. The Dolphins scored on three Garo Yepremian field goals and a Bob Griese 3 yard touchdown pass to tight end Jim Mandich. The game marked the last appearance of Jets quarterback Joe Namath at the Orange Bowl. The Jets were led by first year head coach Lou Holtz, who would quit before the end of the season.
