Happy Birthday to one half of the legendary family duo the Carpenters, Richard Carpenter! Playing piano from an early age, Richard was to also later take on the roles of songwriter, producer, and singer. Sister Karen and himself formed The Richard Carpenter Trio in 1965, recording the Richard-penned Iced Tea, the only official recording to be commercially released by the group. As the Carpenters, from 1969, their first album Offering flopped. But they then recorded a cover of Burt Bacharach and
