On August 27, 2006, Comair Flight 5191 attempted takeoff from the wrong runway at Lexington, Kentucky. The crew mistakenly lined up on Runway 26—significantly shorter than the assigned Runway 22. Unable to achieve liftoff, the aircraft overran the runway and crashed. Forty-nine of the fifty people on board were killed.
