Students at Nelson Mandela University have blocked the entrances to campus on Thursday. NMU confirmed that both the north and south campuses were blocked. First-year students welcomed The Nelson Mandela University George Campus is welcoming their first-year students this morning, Saturday 31 January. The vice-chancellor, Prof Sibongile Mutha, will deliver a livestream address at the Furntech building where students and parents are gathered. Thereafter Dr Kaluke Mawila, senior director of the campus, will bring her message, before students and parents will view the beautiful campus and meet lecturers and other staff. | George Herald

Students at Nelson Mandela University say they will continue their protest until registration, housing, and funding issues are resolved. Police and campus security moved in, using paint guns, rubber bullets, stun grenades, and a water cannon. Students threw rocks in retaliation.
