Iga Swiatek has joined Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon semi-finals after a straight-sets victory over Liudmila Samsonova. The No8 seed won 6-2 7-5 against her Russian opponent, who was seeded as the No19 and was competing in her first Grand Slam quarter-final.
After a torrid quarter-final against Laura Siegemund during which Sabalenka was taken into a bygone era and subjected to a barrage of chips, chops and drop shots, the top seed will welcome a meeting with fellow big-hitter Anisimova.
The Swiss, 28, is also in her first Wimbledon semi-final, and she enters it off the back of a hard-fought win against 18-year-old star Mirra Andreeva. Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Belinda Bencic, and Amanda Anisimova will be looking to secure a spot in the ladies' singles final on the 11th day of the competition.
