The Wedding Banquet, which is being distributed by Bleecker Street film company, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Monday. The film’s director Andrew Ahn told Variety ahead of the movie’s Sundance premiere that he saw the original version of The Wedding Banquet when he was just eight years old.
Andrew Ahn directs a cast that also includes Joan Chen, ‘Minari’ Oscar winner Youn Yuh-Jung and newcomer Ha Gi-Chan in this Seattle-set reimagining of Ang Lee’s international breakthrough.
Writer/director Ahn co-wrote the 2025 take on “The Wedding Banquet” with original co-screenwriter James Schamus, who co-wrote the 1993 film with Lee.
