There’s no such thing as a quick 18 holes at the U.S. Open, particularly when it’s at Oakmont. Players needed 5½ hours or more to get through each of the opening two rounds.

OAKMONT, Pa. — To all U.S. Open sadists, rejoice: We’re at the halfway mark, and only three players are under par. And possibly only two, as there are reports Sam Burns may be disqualified amid rumors he was playing a different course.

The second round of the U.S. Open will resumed on June 14 at 7:30 a.m., with 13 players returning to finish either one or two holes.

Sam Burns did what many people would deem impossible on Friday at the 2025 US Open. Burns claimed the 36-hole lead at Oakmont Country Club with a five-under 65, the best round of the tournament through two rounds. Burns holds a one-shot lead over 18-hole leader JJ Spaun, who dropped two shots after his opening-round 66.

The second round of the 2025 U.S. Open was suspended at 8:15 p.m. ET on Friday due to lighting in the area with a handful of golfers still on the course. The cut line won't be finalized until the second round officially concludes Saturday when play resumes.

The 54-year-old, who fell one shot short of the weekend at Oakmont, won’t have a guaranteed spot in next year’s field.
