The Washington State Emergency Management Division confirmed that the tsunami advisory for Washington state had been cancelled by mid-morning Wednesday.

Tsunami waves were recorded in Washington state on July 30. A tsunami advisory remained in effect, and people were urged to stay away from the coast.

The weather event came after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Russia on Tuesday at 4:25, NWS reported. The earthquake is tied for the sixth-strongest magnitude ever recorded, since Japan’s 9.1 magnitude earthquake in 2011.
