PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Jake Knapp was 11 shots worse than his opening round at the Cognizant Classic and still stayed in front, curling in a 15-foot birdie putt on his final hole Friday for a 1-under 70 and a one-shot lead over Matthieu Pavon.

Jake Knapp joined an elite club on Thursday as he shot the PGA Tour’s 15th sub-60 round ever with a bogey-free 12-under 59 in his opening round at the Cognizant Classic at the PGA National Resort in Florida.

Perhaps the only thing harder than shooting a 59 on the PGA Tour is to back that score up the next day. Jake Knapp made history in Thursday’s first round of the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches when he became just the 14 th player to shoot 59 or better on the PGA Tour.

Thursday afternoon welcomed the start of the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, showcasing some of the top talent around. The first round of play finished with some solid outings, but none more impressive than Jake Knapp.
