Hegar’s impending departure from the comptroller’s seat creates a rare opening for one of Texas’ coveted statewide offices.

Christi Craddick, chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, announced Friday that she will run for the office of Texas Comptroller. Craddick's announcement closely followed news Friday that the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents selected current State Comptroller Glenn Hegar Friday as the sole finalist to be its next chancellor.
