Dozens of investigators tasked with determining the origin of Saturday’s brush fires on Long Island have linked the blazes to a backyard in Manorville.

Investigators have determined that the brush fires that burned more than 400 acres of Long Island’s Pine Barrens over the weekend were caused by a family’s backyard bonfire while making s’mores. Fire officials say early emergency response helped contain the flames before they spread further.

Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Commissioner Rudy Sunderman said the fire will not be considered completely "contained" until 10-foot breaks are built around the full perimeter of the fire, where combustible materials and elements are removed to prevent it from reigniting and spreading.
