By Dietrich KnauthPresident Donald Trump has deployed National Guard troops to California after two days of protests by hundreds of demonstrators against immigration raids, saying that the protests interfered with federal law enforcement and framing them as a possible “form of rebellion” against the authority of the U.

President Trump bypassed the authority of Gov. Gavin Newsom to call up 2,000 National Guard troops to quell immigration protests.

Legal experts questioned Trump’s response to unrest in L.A., saying he appears to be laying groundwork for more expansive use of the military to suppress dissent.
