Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has suspended a key figure ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. After a short break following the Spanish Grand Prix, F1 returned this weekend at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada.
As it happened, the reigning four-time world champion was given a 10-second time penalty which dropped him down to a 10th-place finish. He also received three penalty points on his superlicense, leaving him one slip-up over the next two Grands Prix away from a one-race ban.

The penalty took his number of points over a 12-month period to 11, with 12 incurring a one-race ban. Such a punishment has only been handed out once in the history of F1, with Haas driver Kevin Magnussen missing the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last season after he hit the 12-point threshold.
