The Chicago Cubs acquired Drew Pomeranz from the Seattle Mariners, putting another relief option in their minor league system. Chicago traded cash to Seattle for the 36-year-old Pomeranz, who hasn’t appeared in a big league game since 2021.

The Chicago Cubs announced Monday that they acquired Pomeranz, the 2010 No. 5 pick, from the Seattle Mariners for cash. Pomeranz, 36, is expected to join the first-place Cubs on Wednesday during their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pomeranz recorded a 4.66 ERA and 14-6 K-BB ratio over 9.2 innings at Triple-A Tacoma.

So in Drew Pomeranz, the Cubs are getting a veteran lefty who is injury-prone and hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021, but has at least showed some good stuff this year in Triple-A. On top of that, you can’t argue that the price wasn’t right as the Cubs acquired him for just the oft-traded “cash considerations.”
