At least 274 people were killed in one of India's deadliest plane crashes involving a London-bound Air India flight in Ahmedabad earlier this week.

Following the Air India Flight 171 crash in Ahmedabad, IRDAI has instructed insurers to expedite claim settlements, especially for overseas medical insurance. Insurers are asked to waive certain formalities and rely on official lists for deceased identification.

While family and relatives of the victims who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash are constantly travelling to Ahmedabad, airlines are seeing it as an opportunity to earn profits as airfares for flights to and from Ahmedabad have increased to more than a whopping 500%.

The bodies of the 274 victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash, who have been identified, are set to be handed over to their families by the Gujarat government on Sunday, sources said.

Chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the panel has the civil aviation secretary and the additional secretary in the home ministry as members, according to an order dated June 13.
