Within an hour of polls closing in California, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared victory for Prop. 50 at the California Democratic Party’s headquarters in downtown Sacramento. “No crowns, no thrones, no kings. That is what this victory represents,” Newsom said to the dozens of reporters and news cameras assembled.
