Four tornadoes touched down in the Metro East early Wednesday morning.

A tornado warning was issued in parts of Indiana and residents are being urged to stay indoors and off the roads

Extensive damage was reported in northeast Illinois and portions of northwest Indiana after fierce storms roared through on Tuesday evening, destroying a number of buildings and forcing residents from their homes.

Two people died after tornado touchdowns in Kankakee, Illinois and Northwest Indiana Tuesday night. So far, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 in Jasper County.

4Warn Weather – The National Weather Service Forecast Offices in Northern Indiana and Grand Rapids, Michigan, are now confirming four (4) different tornado touchdowns in Southwestern Michigan from Friday’s severe weather event. Here’s the latest information about the tornado touchdowns across the Southwestern Portions of the state:

"Our hospital and emergency department have remained open as we continue to care for our community," the health system said in a March 7 press release.

Editor’s Note: Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirmed at least one tornado touched down Tuesday near Wheatfield, Indiana, with peak winds near 110 mph, ranking as an EF-1 in intensity.

This was the first tornado that formed from Friday afternoon's strong supercell storm. It would become the deadliest day of tornadoes Michigan has seen since 1980.
