Don’t be fooled by the Bruins’ sweet dispositions. This team can be tough and gritty when it needs to be, as shown in a 51–44 slog against Texas on Friday.
UCLA has now won 30 games in a row. The Bruins have just one loss this season, and it came in November against Texas. They were able to avenge that defeat on Friday as Lauren Betts scored 16 points and pulled down 11 boards. Texas star Madison Booker had a tough night offensively, scoring just six points on 3-of-23 shooting.
The Huskies won last season’s national championship against the Gamecocks, but South Carolina exacted revenge this year. It was an ugly, defensive-slugfest of a game, as the Gamecocks shot only 38% from the field. But four different players scored in at least double digits, led by Ta’Niya Latson’s 16.
Despite its last two losses coming against UConn and Texas, a senior-loaded UCLA squad is confident things will go differently this year in the Final Four.
