The Senate’s decision signals another potential standoff with Gov. Greg Abbott, who vetoed a similar ban earlier this year as he called for more regulations instead.

Senators approved Senate Bill 5 by a 21–8 vote. The bill would ban delta-8, delta-9, and all intoxicating forms of THC, including beverages, and prohibit the retail sale of any cannabinoid except cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG).

So what's next for the bill? The Senate is expected to have its third and final vote on the proposed bill, and if passed, it will head to the House for consideration. If the bill also passes in the House, it will then go to the governor's desk, where Abbott will decide whether to approve or veto it, or take no action.
