Rural Minnesota communities are feeling the pinch as delayed SNAP benefits impact local grocery stores and the broader economy.

U.S. District Judge John McConnell in Providence, Rhode Island, on Thursday ordered the payout by Friday, accusing the administration of withholding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits for political reasons with the government shutdown now more than a month old.

The Trump administration said Friday that it would fund SNAP benefits in full while an appeals process plays out in court.

The state on Friday said reporting errors led to what appeared to be dramatic spikes in federal food benefit payouts in recent years. The agency that administers the program in Minnesota issued the explanation after a Republican state lawmaker and others on social media questioned the numbers.
