California Highway Patrol officers shot and killed a man in San Jacinto on Monday after he allegedly threw rocks at moving cars, the agency said in a statement.

The man was throwing rocks at vehicles traveling on the two-way road from the shoulder of the road, Officer Jonathan Torres said. Torres could not provide details about the size of the rocks the suspect threw, but said at least one car had significant damage from a rock.

It happened at around 5 p.m. on Gilman Springs Road near SR-79, just north of San Jacinto, according to CHP investigators.
