Typhoon Kalmaegi leaves 114 dead, 127 missing in Philippines, many in province recovering from quake
Most of the deaths were reported in the central province of Cebu, which was pummeled by Kalmaegi on Tuesday, according to a local official.
Political analysts say persistent natural disasters could sustain public frustrations and anti-government protests.
Aerial footage from the Philippines shows the destruction wrought on homes and streets by Typhoon Kalmaegi. It was one of the strongest typhoons in the Philippines this year. At least 85 people have died in the flooding and another 75 are missing. The floodwaters swept shipping containers through the streets and cars have been left in piles.
"This is the worst flood I've ever experienced," said 19-year-old Carlos Jose Lañas, a volunteer rescuer, per the BBC. "Almost all the rivers here in Cebu overflowed. Even emergency responders did not expect this kind of scenario."
