Typhoon Kalmaegi brings fierce winds and torrential rains to Vietnam, killing at least five people and damaging thousands of homes.

The Philippines is under high alert as Typhoon Fung-Wong is forecast to strengthen and make landfall on Luzon as soon as Sunday evening.

Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved a state of emergency declaration on Thursday as the storm response continued.

Filipinos are bracing for the arrival of a new typhoon after one earlier this week left more than 200 people dead.

Typhoon Kalmaegi battered the Philippines, and it's now heading for Vietnam as another potential monster storm grows at sea.

Most of the deaths were reported in the central province of Cebu, which was pummeled by Kalmaegi on Tuesday, according to a local official.

Typhoon Kalmaegi, one of the year's deadliest storms, has headed west to Cambodia and Laos after barreling through central Vietnam on Thursday with winds of up to 92mph (149km/h). Earlier this week, the typhoon flooded entire towns in the Philippines, killing at least 114 people and leaving more than 120 missing.
