There's a 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms starting at noon Sunday, according to the NWS Mardi Gras Decision Support Page. The Krewe of Atlas in Jefferson Parish announced in an email Saturday morning that it will also be rescheduled from Sunday to Thursday. It will now roll behind the Krewe of Symphony, which starts at 6:30 p.m.

According to Carnival historian and Mardi Gras Guide founder Arthur Hardy, the city’s first organized parading organization, the Mistick Krewe of Comus, was also the first to have one of its parades featured in a printed bulletin.

As we look toward Mardi Gras day, temperatures look to be mild with highs in the 70s during the afternoon and turning partly cloudy. Early signs are showing that we could be looking at a chance of showers and thunderstorms late afternoon and evening though. It's also possible that some of the storms could turn strong or severe.

Due to the high possibility of rain, parades previously expected to roll Sunday on the Uptown New Orleans route have been rescheduled. The krewes of Femme Fatale, Carrollton and King Arthur will now take place on Tuesday night starting at 5:30 p.

As a group, the first weekend parades really don’t get the publicity or critical acclaim they deserve. And while none rivals the size of Endymion or Bacchus or the grandeur and tradition of Rex, each krewe makes its own contribution to Carnival.
