During a visit to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, President Donald Trump said that seven military bases once named for Confederate military figures -- and then renamed under former President Joe Biden for other military honorees -- would revert to their original names.
Camp Bragg became Fort Bragg in 1922, and a century later, became Fort Liberty after Congress passed an act in 2021 that ordered the Department of Defense to remove all names, symbols, displays, monuments and paraphernalia that honored anyone affiliated with the Confederate States of America. The name “Fort Liberty” became official in 2023.
FORT BRAGG — Manchester Road, from Morganton Road to Morrison Bridge Road, is now closed for roadwork, Fort Bragg officials announced recently. The area will remain closed until Aug. 31 for resurfacing.
