Ruben Amorim has explained the reasons behind dropping Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund from the Manchester United squad to face Arsenal as speculation surrounds both their futures at the club. United began their Premier League campaign this afternoon at Old Trafford against the Gunners but both Onana and Hojlund were absent from the matchday squad.

Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils' manager, addressed the press on Saturday evening. This comes ahead of the big clash at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, marking the opening matchday of the Premier League. The coach emphasized the depth of his squad while sending a clear message to André Onana.

That means, with Onana winning his battle to be fit for United’s Premier League curtain raiser against Arsenal on Sunday, the Cameroonian will almost certainly remain as No 1, with Ruben Amorim giving the error-prone stopper his full backing ahead of the new campaign.

With the Red Devils hosting the Gunners at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 17, the injury status of Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez, Joshua Zirkzee and Noussair Mazraoui is still up in the air. Indeed, none of the foursome were involved or even named on the bench as United played their final friendly of the summer at home to Fiorentina last Saturday.
